Wandering around in a thrift shop, I found an entire shelf of vintage sewing machines. Ah, bliss….

Fabric packs are now available for the Hand-stitched and Beaded Pouch class!

Each pack contains all the fabric items needed to complete one pouch. Mix and match fabric bits from your own stash too — as well as buttons,  beads, and other embellishments.

OK, so it’s not quite winter yet… but it will be here soon enough. If you love to stitch and have leftover fabric bits and pieces, here is a new class to brighten up the gray days in January and February.

In this 2-part class, you’ll hand-stitch and embellish a pouch using easy sewing and beading techniques that can be used in lots of other projects. Even if you have never sewn before, you can make this!

This class will be held at Studio 34 Creative Arts Learning Center, and will be offered twice this winter (in January and February). For details on how to register, please visit The Tailored Nest’s class page.

Hope to see you!

Bliss

I’ve been keeping my iPad in its plastic wrapper for months now, using that as a protective cover while searching for just the right carrying case. There are plenty to be found at big department and tech stores, but I didn’t want anything mass-produced.

My search ended very happily with handcrafted covers at A Crunchy Life on Etsy. Shop owner Lindsey makes  clothing and accessories using organic and reclaimed materials, and her work is colorful, cheerful and beautiful.

And now it’s time for show and tell! :-)

The lovely cover with its bold floral print and a lovely hand-painted label:

An inspiring hand-written quote:

The cover unfolds to serve as a stand (such a pretty green contrasting fabric for the lining!):

Corner pockets and elastic bands hold it snugly in place:

Thank you, Lindsey! :-)

Festival of Food is the biggest tasting event in the area with over 100 amazing vendors. It will be held at the Rochester Public Market on Monday, September 19, 2011 from 6-9pm.

Tickets are available at  Wegmans and proceeds benefit Foodlink, the regional food bank serving the Genesee Valley and Finger Lakes for over 30 years.

The journey to de-cluttering and sprucing up a room begins with small steps: New drapes! What do you think?

The yellow damask and blue/green tapestry has been in my fabric stash for a couple of years, and the color scheme fits really well with the olive-green wall/ceiling color in the room. I have my brother to thank for the fabric, he found it in a thrift shop (along with some other gorgeous yardage) and bought the whole lot. There was just enough of these two pieces to make four tab-top drapery panels. The cording is leftover from a previous project, and the fringe is actually the selvage from the blue/green fabric.

You may notice that the new curtain pictures don’t let you see the rest of the room. That’s because I, um, haven’t actually moved anything out yet. Next task: Tackle the pile of boxes in the corner.

The shop is open!

After a brief post-festival hiatus, the shop is online again!

The shop list is still growing, though, and over the course of the next week I’ll be adding more items:

    • More garlands (festive banners in different colors and prints),
    • Lots of new pillows (two words: vintage roosters!),
    • And of course, many more Market Totes, continuing the partnership with Foodlink to help end hunger.

Ooh! Stay tuned!
